Em writes and illustrates contemporary picture books with a pervasive sense of play. At the core of her creative practice is the curiosity that children so naturally embody. Em's stories support and sustain growth through page-turning wonder and a dash of dry wit. She creates through the eyes of her inner four-year-old—with energy, whimsy, big emotions, and a winking-but-unwavering trust in young readers and their grown-ups.

 

Em grew up in Spokane, WA, and lives in Tucson, AZ with her husband, two dogs, a cat, and a desert tortoise named Tofu. After attending Middlebury College in Vermont and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she spent a decade in the toy and game industry, creating tabletop games with licenses including Discovery, Scholastic, Sesame Street, and Warner Bros.
